YOUR HOLISTIC LIFE 101: “Simple Strategies to Get Started”
We’re bombarded by information every day about what’s safe and what’s not for our families. This can be overwhelming at best, and at worst, completely paralyzing. In this class, no one is judged. Wherever you are is perfect.
Our simple belief? Knowledge is power. Discover how choosing a more holistic life is actually easy, affordable and accessible.
In this three-part class series, Jen Maidenberg of Mindful Living NJ (aka “The Wellness Bitch”) shares with you information she’s learned on her journey towards wellness with the hopes that you’ll be inspired to make simple changes in your own life.
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Class One: Cleaning Out Your Pantry, Part 1, “Why Organic Matters”
Do you want to make the switch to organic foods, but are finding yourself stopped by sticker shock? Would you like more information about why organic is better for your family and how you can afford it? Are you confused or overwhelmed by promises made on food packaging? In this class, learn which are the primary foods to buy organic; understand how to read labels effectively; and feel empowered to be a smart, and safe shopper.
Class Two: “Detox Your Home; Detox Your Life”
Do you use antibacterial cleansers and wipes? Air fresheners? Fragranced fabric softeners? Do you associate a clean home with a “lemon-fresh” home? I hate to break it to you, but you’re poisoning yourself. Toxins are everywhere in our house; from furniture polish to laundry detergent; from sippy cups to soap. Unless you’ve already made the switch to naturally-derived, nontoxic products for housekeeping and skin care, the products you’re using are toxic for your family. Worse yet, if you or a family member has allergies or asthma, you’re making things worse by using these products. The biggest irony is that the switch back to basics, like baking soda and vinegar will improve your health, save the planet, and save you money. It’s so simple, even your cleaning lady will be on board.
Class Three: Clean Out Your Pantry, Part 2, “Reading Labels Powerfully”
Now that you understand the value of buying organic food, and why it directly impacts your health and wellness, we turn to being a smart consumer of packaged foods. Reading labels is not a choice; it’s an imperative. Unfortunately, the FDA is not doing the best job protecting consumers from potentially damaging ingredients in our food supply. Inside every day food items — from bread to cereal to fruit juice to toothpaste–cancer-causing, behavior-changing chemical additives and preservatives are affecting how we feel on a daily basis. As consumers, we need to educate ourselves so we can make conscious food choices. In this workshop, learn the top 10 most dangerous (and unfortunately, most common) ingredients to be on the look out for and why you should be concerned about those items.
Cost: $20/person for one class. $50/person for the three-part series.
